Frequently asked questions
What are the Thai income tax rates?
Thailand uses progressive rates from 0% to 35%. The first 150,000 THB of taxable income is tax free, then rates rise in steps to 35% on taxable income above 5,000,000 THB.
What can I deduct from my salary?
Everyone with salary income gets a standard expense deduction of 50% of the salary, up to 100,000 THB, plus a personal allowance of 60,000 THB. You may also claim a spouse with no income, children, social security contributions, provident fund, life and health insurance and some other items.
Do foreigners pay the same tax rates as Thais?
Yes. Rates and allowances are the same. What differs is which income is taxed: income from work in Thailand is always taxable, and foreign income is taxed if you are a Thai tax resident and bring it into Thailand.
Is the monthly figure what my employer will withhold?
It is a close guide. Employers estimate your yearly tax and withhold about one twelfth each month, but bonuses, mid-year starts and allowances you only claim on your return can make the actual withholding differ.
Which tax year does this use?
The rates and allowances for the 2025 tax year. The government has discussed capping some deductions in later years; this calculator will be updated if the rules change.
