Frequently asked questions
What is the DTV visa?
The Destination Thailand Visa is a 5-year multiple-entry visa for remote workers, freelancers, people doing Thai "soft power" activities such as Muay Thai or cooking courses, and their spouses and children. Each entry allows a stay of up to 180 days.
How much money do I need for the DTV?
At least 500,000 THB, or the same amount in your own currency, shown on bank statements. Embassies are strict about this and many expect the money to have been in your account for about 3 to 6 months.
Can I work for a Thai company on a DTV?
No. You can only work remotely for employers or clients outside Thailand. Working for a Thai company or Thai clients needs a different visa and a work permit.
Can I apply for the DTV from inside Thailand?
No. You apply online through the official Thai e-Visa website while you are outside Thailand. The embassy or consulate covering the country you apply from handles your application.
How much does the DTV cost and can I extend it?
The visa fee is about 10,000 THB, charged in local currency, so the exact amount depends on the embassy. Once in Thailand you can extend each stay once by 180 days at an immigration office for 1,900 THB.
